Terms & Conditions

These terms set out the basis on which Make IT STEM provides its website, mentoring, workshops, free resources and courses. Please read them before booking a session. By using this website or booking our services, you agree to these terms.

1. Who We Are

This website is operated by Giuseppe Romano, trading as Make IT STEM, a sole trader established in the United Kingdom.

In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Giuseppe Romano trading as Make IT STEM. “You” means the person using our website or buying our services.

2. What We Offer

We provide the following, each of which may be subject to additional terms set out at the point of booking or purchase:

1-to-1 career mentoring: a free 15-minute discovery call, followed by paid individual sessions booked directly with us
Group tutoring: live small-group sessions, sold per seat
Workshops and private groups: sessions for institutions and organisations, available on request
Free resources: downloadable templates and guides, provided free of charge
Courses: structured online courses, currently available by waitlist only

3. Prices and Payment

The discovery call is free and places you under no obligation. Mentoring sessions are charged at £45 per hour, unless we agree a different price with you in writing before the session. Group tutoring is charged per seat, as set out in clause 6. Prices are in pounds sterling (GBP). We are not currently VAT registered, so no VAT is charged and the price quoted is the total amount payable.

When you book, we confirm the date, time, price and how to pay in writing. Sessions are paid in advance unless we agree otherwise. Where you pay online, payment is handled by a secure third-party payment provider and we do not receive or store your full card details.

Your right to cancel. If you are a consumer, you can cancel a booking within 14 days of making it, for any reason, and receive a full refund, as permitted by the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. If you ask us to hold a session within those 14 days and it takes place, you lose the right to cancel that session once it has been delivered.

4. Refunds

We will provide a full refund for a session you have paid for where:

you cancel within the 14-day cancellation period described in clause 3, before the session takes place
you cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours’ notice and we cannot agree a new time
we cancel the session and cannot offer a suitable alternative time
you were charged more than once, or charged in error

To request a refund, email contact@makeitstem.com. Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method, normally within 14 days. Nothing here limits your statutory rights — see clause 11.

5. Mentoring Sessions

To book a discovery call or a mentoring session, contact us through the form on this website or by email. A booking is confirmed once we have agreed a time with you in writing.

Rescheduling: please give at least 24 hours’ notice where possible. We will always try to accommodate a new time.
Missed sessions: if you do not attend and have not given notice, the session may be treated as delivered.
Cancellation by us: if we have to cancel and cannot offer a suitable alternative time, you will receive a full refund for that session.
Format: sessions are normally delivered online. A working internet connection and a suitable device are your responsibility.

6. Group Tutoring and Workshops

Group tutoring is charged at £20 per seat per hour, unless a different price is shown when the group is announced. Each group has a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 participants.

Minimum numbers: a group goes ahead only once at least 6 people have signed up. If it does not reach the minimum, we will cancel it and refund in full anything you have paid.
Recordings: sessions are recorded and the recordings are made available to that group’s participants for up to 6 weeks after the final session, after which they are deleted. Recordings are for your personal use only: you may not share, publish or redistribute them.
Certificate of attendance: participants who attend receive a certificate of attendance. It confirms your participation and is not an accredited qualification.
Missed sessions: if you miss a session, you can catch up using the recording; missed sessions are not refunded.

Workshops and private groups for institutions are quoted individually. Scope, dates, fees, cancellation terms and any travel or expenses will be confirmed in writing before the booking is confirmed. Those written terms take precedence over this clause where they differ.

7. Courses and Waitlists

Joining a course waitlist is free and places you under no obligation. It is not a purchase and does not reserve a place. We will contact you when enrolment opens; a contract is formed only when you enrol and pay, at which point the course’s own terms will be provided to you.

8. Free Resources

Our resources are provided free of charge, in some cases in exchange for your email address. Free resources are supplied “as is”, for your personal use, and we may change or withdraw them at any time. Where you give us your email address, we will handle it in line with our Privacy Policy, and you may unsubscribe at any time.

9. Intellectual Property

All content on this website and in our resources — text, checklists, templates, slides, graphics and course material — is owned by Giuseppe Romano trading as Make IT STEM, or used with permission, and is protected by copyright.

When you download a resource, you get a personal, non-transferable licence to:

use it for your own personal or professional development
print or store a copy for your own use

You may not:

resell, sublicense, share or redistribute it, in whole or in part
publish it online, or upload it to a file-sharing service or an AI training dataset
use it to deliver paid training or coaching to others
remove or alter any copyright or attribution notice

Institutional and team licences are available — please contact us if you need one.

10. Nature of Our Services — No Guaranteed Outcomes

Our mentoring, workshops and resources provide guidance, information and professional opinion based on experience in academia and industry. They are intended to help you make your own informed decisions.

We do not guarantee any particular outcome — including a job offer, interview, promotion, place on a programme, grant, visa or publication. Recruitment and admissions decisions are made by third parties on criteria outside our control. We do not provide legal, immigration, financial or medical advice, and nothing we supply should be relied on as such.

11. Your Consumer Rights

If you are a consumer, you have statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 — including that services be performed with reasonable care and skill, and that digital content be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Nothing in these terms removes or limits those rights. Where any clause here conflicts with your statutory rights, your statutory rights prevail.

If you are a consumer living in the European Union, you also have the rights given to you by the mandatory consumer laws of your country (for example, on the conformity of digital content and services), and nothing in these terms removes or limits those rights either.

12. Acceptable Use of This Website

You agree not to:

use the website unlawfully, or in a way that damages or disrupts it
attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site or its systems
scrape, harvest or bulk-download content, or use automated systems to do so
submit false, abusive or misleading information through our forms

We may withdraw access to our website or services, or decline a booking, where we reasonably believe these terms have been breached or where a working relationship is not viable. Where we decline a booking you have already paid for, we will refund it in full.

13. Availability of the Website

We aim to keep the site available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The site is hosted by a third-party provider and may be unavailable for maintenance or for reasons beyond our control. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site or our services at any time.

14. Third-Party Services and Links

We use third-party providers for payments, forms, mailing lists and analytics, and we link to external sites such as LinkedIn and Google Scholar. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their content or practices. The providers we rely on are listed in our Privacy Policy.

15. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Subject to that, and to clause 11:

we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, opportunity, earnings or reputation
we are not liable for decisions you take, or that third parties take about you, based on our guidance or resources
our total liability arising from any service is limited to the amount you paid us for that service

These limits do not apply to losses arising from our deliberate breach, or where liability cannot lawfully be limited.

16. Privacy and Data Protection

We handle personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Please see our Privacy Policy for details of what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and your rights. You can change your analytics cookie preference at any time via Cookie Settings.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page when you make a booking or purchase is the version that applies to it. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.

18. Complaints

If something has gone wrong, please contact us first at contact@makeitstem.com — we aim to acknowledge complaints within 5 working days and to resolve them within 30 days. If you paid through a third-party payment provider, you may also be able to use its dispute process.

19. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction and keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections available to you locally. If you are a consumer living in the European Union, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence, and you may also bring proceedings in the courts of that country.

20. General

If any clause is found to be unenforceable, the rest of these terms continue to apply.
If we do not enforce a term straight away, we do not lose the right to enforce it later.
These terms are between you and us; no one else can enforce them.
You may not transfer your rights under these terms without our agreement.
